REBUILDING MUNI FOR EVERYONE.
The image below is our Muni golf course and the Swannanoa River on September 27th, 2024. The course suffered serious destruction, all following the beautiful renovation that was largely completed. The back nine suffered damage of as well, but was reopened for play within a month. Commonwealth Golf, the City of Asheville and The Friends of Asheville Muni are working together to keep the back 9 open, well maintained and improved while the process of rebuilding the full 18 holes continues. The Friends of Asheville Muni (501c3) mission has shift a bit to help with these objectives until the course is reconstructed, but we will remain focused on making the historic Muni course all is has been and more to our community. -FOAM
Welcome to Friends of Asheville Municipal Golf Course
Thank you for your interest in being part of the Friends of Asheville Municipal Golf Course. We need YOU to assist and invest in the on-going maintenance and restoration of Asheville's Municipal Golf course.
Asheville “Muni” has a rich history and promising future for citizens and visitors alike. Having just completed a comprehensive restoration project to return the course to Donald Ross’ vision and peak condition in 2024 before Hurricane Helene destroyed the front 9 and damaged the back 9.
Previously, over 41,000 rounds of golf were played yearly and over 22,500 played by local Asheville and Buncombe County residents. The course has long been well loved and well played and has long been a vital part of Asheville. Before the 2024 flooding and damage over 18,000 rounds were played by visitors annually, this creates an off-course economic impact of over $300,000 per year in hotels, restaurants, shopping and entertainment dollars spent in Asheville.
The City of Asheville, Friends of Asheville Muni and Commonwealth Golf are overseeing the complex project to rebuild the Asheville Muni golf course as soon as possible.
